Ferrules

Ferrules are the end contact pieces that fit on the end of crutches and are designed with a specific specification in mind. They can be used on anything they fit which you want to be in contact with the floor, such as a seat. Some have flat bottoms while others have a bell shape. By nature of design, they have the following attributes.

Desirable Ferrule Attributes

• Flexible, so the edge will bend according to the nature and shape of the surface to give maximum contact area. However, with increased surface area extra force is dissipated.
• High Coefficient of Friction– friction is assured due to the selected material usually a PVC compound (Check for Latex free ferrules if you are allergic).
• Easy to fit– pick the right size for a good interference fit.
