Where To Find Mobility Aids In Peterborough
Peterborough has grown considerably since The Mobility Aids Centre first opened. It has truly become a bustling and sprawling city, with the likes of the Hamptons expanding the city’s boundaries and population considerably. That has brought new businesses, shops and more to Peterborough than we ever had before.
However, it has also meant that there is a huge increase in the number of people around the city, and that can make it more challenging to navigation is you have difficulties with mobility.
With this influx of new challenges, how can you make sure that your everyday life isn’t hindered? Well, there are a number of ways to ensure that you have all of the Mobility Aids in Peterborough that you need.
Shopmobility
The first that is worth mentioning is that both Queensgate Shopping Centre and Serpentine Green both have Shopmobility schemes in place.
QUEENSGATE
For Queensgate, once you have parked your car in the multi-storey car park, you will need to head up to Floor 11 of the car park. Thankfully, the shopping centre has a good number of lifts available. However, it does mean that you will need a way to get up there unless you specifically manage to park on Floor 11.
Also, please note that whilst there are blue badge parking spaces in Queensgate’s multi-storey car park, parking is not free for blue badge holders.
If you haven’t used the Queensgate Shopmobility scheme before, you will need to register with them before you can hire one of their mobility aids. Once you are registered, you can then hire their scooters whilst you are shopping in Queensgate.
You need to be aware, though, that Shopmobility closes at 4:30pm and isn’t open on Sundays. Therefore, you will need to plan your shopping trips around their opening times since you will need to return the mobility scooter when you are done.
SERPENTINE GREEN
Like Queensgate, Serpentine Green does offer a Shopmobility scheme for visitors of the shopping centre. However, they do not give any information about their services on their website. Therefore, you would need to give them a call or simply turn up and find the Shopmobility desk to find out more information.
Hiring Mobility Aids Versus Buying Them
As you can see, there are ways that you can hire mobility aids when shopping, as long as you only need a mobility scooter. However, there are some drawbacks that you need to be aware of when it comes to hiring mobility aids in Peterborough.
The first aspect to be aware of is that you will need to plan your shopping trips around the Shopmobility scheme’s office opening time. This takes away some of your flexibility and could add extra stress to your shopping trip, as you would likely end up clock-watching and trying to rush back before they close.
The second thing to keep in mind is that, because each of the mobility scooters are for hire, a number of other people will have been using them. As such, the handling and setup of these scooters may not be completely right for you.
This can lead to discomfort and difficulty when shopping compared to if you had your own mobility scooter.
So, whilst the Shopmobility scheme is absolutely fantastic if you are travelling to town and don’t have the ability to bring your own mobility scooter with you. However, if you are able to purchase your own mobility aids in Peterborough, it can make your life that bit easier and more stress-free.
With your own mobility scooter, you can shop in complete freedom without having to plan everything around the opening hours of the Shopmobility offices. On top of this, you can make sure that you have it ready, no matter where you end up parking. That can be very helpful if Queensgate’s main car park gets full and you have to park at one of the other, smaller car parks.
