Top 5 Accessible Shows To Visit This Christmas

With Halloween done and dusted for another year, it’s time for everyone to really start thinking about the Christmas holidays! After all, it’s less than 2 months away (in fact, it’s just 48 days from today).

Aside from all of the Christmas shopping that we all leave so late, there is a myriad of different things that you could be doing over the festive season. From watching the Christmas lights being turned on in your local city/town to going and watching a Christmas show, there’s no end of great activities for you and your family.

So we decided to take a look at our picks for the top 5 accessible shows that you can see this Christmas!

The Snowman – Peacock Theatre, London

The Snowman is one of the most highly recognised and well-regarded Christmas tales of all time. It’s right up there with the likes of A Christmas Carol. So, it should come as no surprise that we are including it on this list of the top accessible Christmas shows.

Being held at the Peacock Theatre in London, you’ll find that the entrances are flat and the venue has lifts going to each floor. As if that wasn’t enough already, the auditorium itself has an array of wheelchair-accessible spaces.

This means that you and your entire family can enjoy this theatrical production of a true Classic classic! So, get ready to sing along as you enjoy a live rendition of “Walking in the Air”.

Aladdin – King’s Theatre, Glasgow

Moving away from more traditional theatrical shows, the next on our list falls well and truly into the pantomime territory. Aladdin throws in all of the punches when it comes to over the top humour, eccentric characters and a wealth of gags & songs to keep you entertained.

As for the King’s Theatre, you can expect a warm welcome and great accessibility! The venue offers a variety of access performances for a wide range of needs, whilst also having wheelchair spaces and transfer seats.

On top of this, you’ll also find shows that are audio described, or even relaxed performances designed to be enjoyable for those on any range of the autism spectrum.

Nativity: The Musical – Festival Theatre, Edinburgh

Back in 2009, the first film in the Nativity series was released staring Martin Freeman. Now, you won’t be seeing the good Mr. Freeman in the stage production version, but Nativity: The Musical still follows the tale of a frustrated teaching trying to help his school put on the best nativity play.

It’s a heart-warming story that can now be enjoyed through the medium of songs! Nativity: The Musical features amazing dance routines, brimming with comedy, in front of dazzling set pieces. However, that isn’t enough to get it featured on our list of the top accessible Christmas shows for 2018.

As well as an amazing show, at the Festival Theatre, you will also find wheelchair seats with room for companions. On top of that, there is flat access to the various stalls and the ability to pre-book a wheelchair as well.

Alice in Wonderland – Sherman Theatre, Cardiff

Everyone loves the weird and wonderful tale of Alice’s misadventures after she goes down the rabbit hole. With amazing characters like the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts, Alice in Wonderland is a tale of fantastic events that will steal your heart.

The stage production of Alice in Wonderful manages to capture everything you know and love about the tale, adding in outstanding costumes, immaculate set pieces and accessibility options to suit your needs.

For example, whilst you would need to buy a ticket, your companion would be given admission for free. On top of this, the show can be audio-described as well, with captioned performances also planned throughout the Christmas season.

Cinderella – Swansea Grand Theatre

Going back to the delightful Christmas tradition of the pantomime, we round off this list of the top accessible Christmas shows with Cinderella. Starring Ian Watkins, most famous as “H” from the 90s pop group Steps, you can expect some truly upbeat entertainment, with cries of “he’s behind you”, in this over the top rendition of such a timeless tale.

  • Ordered a folding shower seat with 2 grab bars in the morning and these were delivered to me in the afternoon of the same day - that is what I call service. However the following day a further 2 Grab Bars were delivered and the co said that they would collect these the same day - still waiting after 1 week and another call - not so good and still waiting. A point that the co should consider is that we are finding it difficult to get someone to fit the shower seat and they are unable to provide any guidance or help. would suggest that they collect names and telephone numbers of local tradesmen who are trusted to fit their mobility equipment and provide guidance on fitting

  • I was looking for a buggy for adults and the one I purchased named Troy. was excellent, I can put it up & down in seconds. The wheels are superbly easy to turn with. My husband says it is very comfortable and the black leather with red piping is very smart. When folded up there is a padded grip in the middle of the frame, which is perfectly balanced to lift it in and out of cars etc. a wonderfully strong but light wheelchair.
