TMAC Help The GB Paralympics Team Go For Gold!
Will ParalympicsGB’s secret to success be in their use of revolutionary equipment?
So much goes into making an athlete. The training, dedication and raw talent that are honed to perfection are key to them being the best they can be, but what about the equipment they use?
ParalympicsGB’s shooting team knows only too well how important the right equipment is to helping them achieve success, and are all set to take on London having trained using specialist equipment supplied by The Mobility Aids Centre Ltd ; the Easystand Evolv Glider and the Easystand Strap Stand.
Having sent four athletes to Beijing four years ago and won one gold medal, they’re looking to significantly increase their medal haul with the 12-strong team they’ve assembled for London, including 8-time Paralympian Di Coates and defending Paralympic champion Matt Skelhon (still no news on which hairstyle he’ll choose this time around!). In fact, ParalympicsGB has one of the biggest shooting teams competing at the Games this year, showing just how much the squad has grown since Beijing.
Since continuing their training in earnest at the Paralympic Games Holding Camp in Bath, the team have been utilising the equipment supplied by The Mobility Aids Centre Ltd in Peterborough while training for each of the events in which they’ll compete.
Jo Hipkiss, lead physiotherapist for Disability Target Shooting Great Britain who’s been working closely with the team, offered her thanks to The Mobility Aids Centre Ltd , asserting that the mobility equipment has been ‘a great asset’ for the team.
Both pieces of equipment are designed to assist the user from their wheelchair and into a standing position, ensuring that they’re fully supported. The Easystand Evolv Glider utilises Active Standing design and technology which helps to strengthen the upper body while allowing movement in the lower body. The Easystand Strap Stand meanwhile lifts the user from their wheelchair and provides improved independence and increased compliance for users who find it difficult to transfer between wheelchair and standing frame.
Both pieces of equipment have been indispensable during training for the shooting team, promoting the general well-being of each of the athletes, as well as providing physical stamina improvements, helping to improve each athlete’s cardiovascular system and having a significant number of spinal benefits. All this goes towards helping them to focus on the very important task of getting their shots on target.
It is hoped that the last four years of intensive training and unshakeable focus on the job in hand will help them to dominate each of the Paralympic shooting events, and allow them to bring home the gold!
