Pimp My Zimmer Trend Sweeps The Nation!
If you’re anything like us you love seeing all things festive, and this was one thing, in particular, we just couldn’t ignore. Care home residents in Wales have been decorating their Zimmer frames, with help from local schoolchildren. From felt flowers to festive lights and even a Santa-themed chimney design, the residents have gone all-out!
The project aims to reduce falls and raise awareness of the importance of walking aids after a care home matron noticed residents with dementia were finding it hard to recognise their own frame.
One care home claims the project has reduced falls by up to 60% and following recent statistics released from the World Health Organisation that each year an estimated 646,000 individuals die from falls globally, of which the main proportion come from people aged 65 and over, this can only be a positive thing!
The scheme also comes at a time of year when vulnerable people are in need of a sense of community more than ever. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that cycles with the seasons. It can occur during any time of the year, but it typically affects people during the winter months, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to this.
Here at the Mobility Aids Centre, we have a wide range of walking aids and, in particular, Zimmer frames, which we would love to see spruced up with a little bit of festive cheer! Please send in your best attempts to us on our Facebook page so we can spread the joy!
