8 Disability Aids That Make Living With Parkinson’s Disease Easier

Life with Parkinson’s Disease can be a big change, making you feel scared and lonely. However, as discussed in our recent post on living with Parkinson’s Disease, it is still possible to live a relatively independent lifestyle.

Following on from that advice, we wanted to bring your attention to 8 of the best disability aids that can make life with Parkinson’s Disease easier to manage. From larger disability aids such as recliners to simple tools to help you unplug household items, each of these will ease your life in one regard or another.

Medina Electric Chair

Starting off this list of disability aids that help with Parkinson’s Disease, we have the Medina Electric Chair. This chair features an extendable footrest to ensure comfort when using it, but also tips forward at a gentle pace in order to help you to stand up.

The Medina Electric Chair comes in three different sizes, meaning that you will be able to find the perfect sized chair for yourself. With a remote control, you can make use of these great functions quickly and easily.

Cannington Cosi Chair

Sticking with seating, but moving away from electric chairs and recliners, we have the Cannington Cosi Chair – a traditional style armchair that offers high levels of comfort and panache.

On top of this, the neck, back and lumbar sections of the Cannington Cosi Chair are adjustable, thanks to the zipped waterfall design on the back of the chair.

Bed Grab Rail

With the living room comfort covered by either of the chairs above, the next room in your house to look at is the bedroom. Everyone loves their bed and very few people would want to change it, so rather than replace your beloved bed with a new, mechanical one, why not use an easy to install Bed Grab Rail.

The Bed Grab Rail is absolutely perfect for slatted beds and takes almost no time to install. Once set up, it will make getting in and out of bed a much easier task.

Deluxe Bathtub Grab Rail

Similar to the Bed Grab Rail, getting in and out of the bath can be very difficult. This is especially true as both the bath and the floor around it can be wet – there is a definite risk of slipping and falling over.

Thankfully, the Deluxe Bathtub Grab Rail can be installed onto your bathtub to make it much safe to transfer in and out. Built to be strong and sturdy, able to hold your weight and give you something to grab onto, the Deluxe Bathtub Grab Rail is a must-have for anyone with Parkinson’s Disease.

Bathmaster Deltis Heavy Duty Bath Lift

Perhaps a grab rail for your bathtub doesn’t sound right for you, or you need a bit more help when it comes to lowering yourself into the tub. If that is the case, then the Bathmaster Deltis Heavy Duty Bath Lift could be the perfect answer to your needs.

The bath lift is easy to put in and take out of the bathtub and features the latest battery technology to ensure that you are lifted up and lowered safely and securely.

Chester Adjustable Height Shower Stool

Perhaps you prefer taking showers rather than sitting in the bath. After all, there are a lot of people who do. In that case, it may be a good idea to invest in the Chester Adjustable Height Shower Stool, so that you can sit down and have a shower easily.

This way, you can rest your body without the strain of standing up in the shower. This can make life much easier if your Parkinson’s Disease has led to muscle rigidity.

Anti-Slip Tray

To end this list, we’re going to showcase two small but incredibly useful tools that can help to improve everyday life if you have Parkinson’s Disease. The first of these is the Anti-Slip Tray, which will help when carrying cups of tea or dinner plates.

It is a very simple tool but it can make dinner and tea time much easier and more stress-free.

Plug Pull

The final disability aid that we are going to be looking at is the Plug Pull. This simple tool connects to any plug in your house, making it easier to grasp and unplug. The Plug Pull is a great tool to have since plugs are often designed in very awkward shapes that can be difficult to hold on to, especially if you have a weak grip.

The Pull Plug basically gives you a much more ergonomic handle to grip onto, so that you are able to unplug your various electricals and electronics without straining yourself.

Each of these disability aids can really help to make life easier if you are living with Parkinson’s Disease. There are, of course, a tonne of other disability aids that can help as well – if you want some advice on what disability aids would be right for you, feel free to contact us through our contact form or by calling us on 01733 342242.

  • Ordered a folding shower seat with 2 grab bars in the morning and these were delivered to me in the afternoon of the same day - that is what I call service. However the following day a further 2 Grab Bars were delivered and the co said that they would collect these the same day - still waiting after 1 week and another call - not so good and still waiting. A point that the co should consider is that we are finding it difficult to get someone to fit the shower seat and they are unable to provide any guidance or help. would suggest that they collect names and telephone numbers of local tradesmen who are trusted to fit their mobility equipment and provide guidance on fitting

  • Fantastic service, I order a Bathmaster Deltis bath chair lift on the 18/08/2015 and using the standard delivery system it was delivered to my house the following day. The chair works very well, it comes packed in the manufactures original box, battery ready charged for instantaneous use and at a very competitive price. Very good performance all round.

  • I was looking for a buggy for adults and the one I purchased named Troy. was excellent, I can put it up & down in seconds. The wheels are superbly easy to turn with. My husband says it is very comfortable and the black leather with red piping is very smart. When folded up there is a padded grip in the middle of the frame, which is perfectly balanced to lift it in and out of cars etc. a wonderfully strong but light wheelchair.
